Required Courses for New Members & Subscribers
- All new members of Sunflower MLS must complete steps 1 and 2.
- New members of the Sunflower Association of REALTORS® must complete steps 3 through 7.
- Members joining both organizations must complete all steps.
These requirements may be completed in any order AFTER your membership application has been approved and dues or fees have been paid. The completion deadline for each step is included in parentheses.

All new participants, subscribers, and administrative staff granted access to the Sunflower MLS (SMLS) must schedule training with SMLS staff within 30 days of receiving MLS access. This training will cover resources, policies, and procedures. You can complete the training either in person or virtually.
Once you've received the welcome email with instructions on accessing Sunflower MLS, click here to schedule your orientation session. Orientation typically takes an hour, but it may be shorter or longer depending on your specific needs.
All new participants, subscribers, and administrative staff requesting access to the SMLS must complete a test on the service's rules and regulations within 30 days of receiving access. A passing grade of at least 42 is required. Click here to take the test.
You'll find the SMLS Rules & Regulations and the SMLS Field Definition Guide in the MLS Documents under the Governing Documents folder; you'll need these to prepare for the test.
Important Notes:
- Your score will display at the end of the test. We encourage you to review your answers before hitting "Submit" if your score is less than 42.
- Failure to complete the test as required will result in the suspension of your MLS access and a reactivation fee of $100.
The National Association of REALTORS® requires all new members to complete a Code of Ethics orientation within 60 days of membership.
You can find the orientation here. You'll need to set up a login and provide your NRDS number which was included in your welcome email from SAR staff.
Important: Penalties for Non-Compliance
- Failure to complete the NAR New Member Code of Ethics orientation as required will result in a $50 fine.
- If you do not complete the orientation within 10 days of being fined, your membership and access to the SMLS system will be suspended. Additional fees are assessed for reactivation.
New members must complete NAR's fair housing simulation training within six months of membership approval. This training uses storytelling to help identify, prevent, and address discriminatory practices in real estate.

New members will be required to attend a session on contracts presented by association legal counsel within twelve months of membership. The class will provide three hours of continuing education when attended in person. The session will be presented up to four times per year to afford members ample opportunity to attend, and is alternatively offered in person and virtually.

Failure complete this course as required will result in a fine of $50.00 and possible suspension of membership as well as access to the SMLS system.
New members must attend a session within 12 months of membership. This class covers advertising, BRRETA, and how to avoid common violations.
Offered up to four times per year, this session provides ample opportunity to attend and is alternatively offered in person and virtually.

New members are required to attend a session presented by SAR staff covering the REALTOR® association's:
- Structure
- Benefits and services
- Advocacy and RPAC
- Working with our partners
- Getting involved in association committees and activities
- And more
Sessions alternate between in person and virtual.
